Simple Words It’s strange that just shapes can have so much power. Think about it for a minute. What are letters? They’re really just shapes. Not much more than that. When combined with other letters, words are formed. It’s just a combination of shapes. Yet, there is an intangible power behind words. Something more. Simple words have driven nations to fight oppression. Simple words have earned authors money that some can only dream about. Simple words have even split apart families.
There is something more to words than just the influence they have, however. It’s the simplicity. Even children in kindergarten can write words, create sentences, and express themselves further. You don’t have to be a nuclear physicist to have an understanding of the English language. Some of the greatest papers people have read were written by people that haven’t even reached the age of 25. Some not even out of college. Yet these words influence people still today. I guess that’s why we’re doing what we’re doing.
The youth here at Fountain Head Church of Christ have been presented an opportunity. We have the chance to write an editorial for the congregation here. When first asked if the youth would like to write an editorial, we were told the benefits. It looks good on college applications, it’s a learning experience, and it will be an activity that we all work together and achieve a common goal. Of course these are great reasons to make an editorial, but there’s something more that caught our eye. Something that we would have almost no other way of doing except through this. That benefit is the ability to change the people around us for the better simply by our writing and other works.
As the youth, we willingly sit attentively and watch those with experience lead a congregation. It is not often that our voice is heard and seriously considered because many times, it is not our place to lead a group that has gone through more than we have. However, with opportunities like these, our voices can be heard. Our simple goal is to influence change for the better. What more can you ask for but to change the way someone lives for the better and make their life easier? Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “To know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived- that is to have succeeded.”
Throughout the rest of this year, this editorial will be dedicated to the benefit of anyone who reads this, and by doing so, walking the simple Christian life that GOD asks of us. Consider this a testament to the upbringing every one of you has given us. Our ideas and ways of life were shaped after your influences after all. Hopefully, this proves your success so far. Now, simply by our words, each of us hopes to now influence your ideas and ways of life. We intend to show you what you’ve taught us, and maybe, even a little bit more that we picked up along the way. Each month, one of the youth here will write an article that aims to improve our lives as Christians. The rest of us will think of more ideas to be helpful and, with any luck, entertaining. By this, we make our editorial for everyone to enjoy. Rest assured we will edit this editorial for the edification of this edifice (I had to do it). May this year be the best year of your life. Carpe diem.
